Video Loops Format and Size ConsiderationsUpdated a month ago

When selecting assets to use in the video loop bays in Muséik there are a few things to be considered.

1. Video Style.  You are fee to load anything into the loop bays, but remember that any video you load will loop continually.  For this reason it is best to select clips that are built to loop seamlessly. Finding VJ loops online is easy and there are many sites that offer free or very affordable loops downloads.

2. File Format.  The loop bays will take just about any graphic file type. Still images like .png, .jpeg or .pdf will work well.  Moving images can be .mov, .mp4, or other video formats.

3. File Length.  Videos loaded into the loop bays that are under 5 seconds in duration do not load to RAM memory.  Because of this loops shorter than 5 seconds will "catch" momentarily at the end of the file before looping back to the beginning. For this reason it is best to use files longer than 5 seconds, or to render a version of a short loop with 2 or 3 repetitions to extend it past 5 seconds.

4. File Size. File size limitations will be a function of the size and speed of your computer. Over time you will begin to know what your machine can handle in terms of file size. In general it is best to use clips with smaller (1GB or less) file sizes.

A Word About Transparency. If you load .png files or videos with an alpha channel you will notice that Muséik 3.2.0 does not recognize transparency in the files.  This means that if you completely fade in a file with transparency it will cover any assets playing below it. This is a minor bug in Muséik 3.2.0 and we are working to resolve it so that your files with transparency will function properly. (7/9/2026)
