Using Muséik to fire DMX Light Cues Through QLabUpdated a month ago

Overview

Muséik versions 3.2 later can trigger cues in QLab using millisecond data sent over OSC. QLab has the ability to function like a basic light board to fire the cues, or it can be connected to certain light boards to fire cues stored in the board. This article will focus on firing DMX light cues using QLab as a simple light board.

Pre-Setup

  1. Purchase a QLab license. If you will use QLab only to fire lighting cues you will need just the Lights license. Go to www.qlab.app and set up an account. Once you are logged in click SHOP on the top menu bar. Next enter the license details you require:

    • Buy vs Rent

    • License Type(s) (audio, video, lights)

    • Enter a date range if you selected to Rent a license

    Follow the steps to complete the transaction.

     

Software Setup - QLab

  1. Open the QLab app.  Muséik is built to integrate with QLab 5.0 or higher. Be sure you have installed the proper version of QLab.
  2. In the first window click on "Licenses". Follow the prompts to sign in using your QLab account (the same one you used to purchase the license) and select your active license. When you finish you will return to the main QLab screen (pictured below).
  3. If you are using QLab as your lighting console you will need to create each lighting cue in QLab.  See QLab documentation for information on how to do this.

 

Software Setup - Muséik

  1. First you will need a Muséik Show File.  This can be one of our pre-licensed titles or a Stage Sync™ product. Either way, the Show File is the key to creating a perfect sync with your live performance. Your Show File can output video or audio and at the same time send fire commands to QLab that trigger your lighting cues. Shop for Show Files at www.ionconcertmedia.com.

  2. Next need to build your OSC Cue List. Muséik fires cues in QLab through an OSC connection. Cues are fired based on millisecond data in the Muséik Show File.  You will need to create an OSC Cue Sheet that will tell Muséik what OSC commands to send out and when.  See Help Center documents about the OSC Cue Creator for more information. 

  3. Once your OSC Cue List is created and exported as a .museiksave file go back to Muséik and load your Show File, then arm it.  Once it is armed (circle is white and score window is populated), click OSC in the lower left corner of the interface. Load your .museiksave file and click Open. Now your Show File will deliver the OSC commands at the specific milliseconds according to the cue list you created.


MAKE THE CONNECTION

  1. The final step is to make sure your connection between Muséik and QLab is active. In the Qlab Workspace click the Settings icon in the lower right corner.

2. On the next screen click NETWORK. Now click the right tab labelled "OSC Access." In the left column, on the line that says "No passcode", make sure all three boxes are checked (View, Edit, Control). Save your workspace.

 

You now have all your software configured to cue lights through QLab.  Highlight the first light cue in QLab, then go to Muséik and press play. You should be able to see the QLab program running, even if no physical lights are set up.
